As trucking companies and commercial truck drivers further utilize wireless, location, and communications technologies, there exists a tremendous opportunity to help save more lives through the fast and accurate reporting of accidents, impediments, or dangers on the highway to the proper public safety agencies. We are implementing this program in Wisconsin to address these problems, and we would like you to be involved. The Wisconsin Highway Watch program is patterned after similar public safety initiatives within the states of Kansas, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts as well as focus groups of truck drivers conducted during the National Truck Driving Championships in August 1998. Wisconsin Highway Watch will enlist the help of drivers to report incidents such as drunk and reckless driving, hazardous road conditions, vehicle accidents and breakdowns, and any criminal activity. Motor Carriers are a very important part of this program. Participating carriers will attend training sessions; help recruit volunteer drivers to participate in this program; allow for their drivers to be trained and support the participation of drivers in the program; get dispatchers, route supervisors, and other key employees trained, and involved; post updates and incident statistics reported by drivers; collect feedback about the program; recognize outstanding deeds of Wisconsin Highway Watch drivers; and promote the program. After this training, the individual will be able to conduct training sessions for Highway Watch either at their own company or for open training sessions. This person should have experience giving training presentations using a PowerPoint presentation and the company should have a computer and PowerPoint projector that could be used to give this training. Training will be conducted by a Wisconsin Master Trainer. There is no charge for training. If you do not wish
to have an in house trainer, contact Sue Webb (608) 833-8200 ext 12 to
set up a training session in your area.
