Wisconsin's Road Team
Information Page
Nomination Form
The Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association (WMCA) became the first
state association in the country to organize and develop a State Road
Team in February of 1988. The Team has provided the WMCA with a proactive
approach to highway safety and an opportunity to improve the image of the
trucking industry in this state.
The program utilizes articulate and safety-conscious truck drivers. These
individuals continue to drive for their companies and they make public
appearances approximately three to four days per month on behalf of the trucking
industry.
The 2002 Wisconsin Road Team members have built upon the successful
foundation developed by the members of the Teams in previous years. The program
has concentrated in the following areas:
- Driver's Education Classes - In 2002, the Road Team made
approximately 205 high school appearances and made presentations to about
15,000 students in driver education classes, providing safety tips and
explaining how to "share the road" with trucks.
-
Media & the General Public - Wisconsin's
Road Team members have granted numerous interviews with the media and have
discussed highway safety and the importance of the trucking industry at a
variety of conventions, conferences, trade shows, and civic organizations.
-
Safety Forums - Team members have spoken at
safety forums, at the in-service training session for both the Wisconsin
State Patrol and the Federal Highway Administration, at drivers' meetings,
and at company safety banquets.
This program has been a tremendous success! The trucking industry is telling
its story about highway safety and the importance of the trucking industry to
the state's economy. This is particularly important with the anti-truck articles
that often appear in publications.
In order to continue this success, the WMCA is looking for a select group of
professional drivers to represent the trucking industry in this state in 2003.
